Devotions - John 6:35
"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
Jesus has just emphasized that the manna, which the Israelites ate in the wilderness, did not come from Moses but from God. “The bread of life” that Jesus identifies with himself, then, is from God and is not something that we are to receive just once or occasionally. It is the day by day nourishment that comes with the presence of Christ’s Spirit in our lives. And so we pray, “Give us this day our daily bread”--bread on the table, yes, but more essentially “the bread of life” in our daily being. Jesus took the most everyday experiences to point to the most basic realities of life.
