Program Structure

Kerygma offers 40 Bible study courses: foundational courses for in-depth study of the whole Bible and elective or shorter Bible studies focusing on a particular theme, topic, or book of the Bible. Each course offers a Resource Book for participants and a Leader’s Guide, and a supplementary text is also available for some of our studies.  Kerygma Bible studies range in length from 4 to 34 weeks and generally fit into a 60-minute timem period. They don't require a group leader to be a biblical scholar (just a good facilitator); leaders can be lay people, educators, and clergy.

RESOURCE BOOK

The Resource Book is for all participants including the leader(s). It is written by a scholar in a "reader-friendly" style and is used along with the Bible. Each participant is encouraged to purchase a Resource Book for home preparation. Informed individual study makes for active shared learning.

LEADER’S GUIDE

The Leader’s Guide is written by an educator to unpack the Resource Book’s content into winning strategies for exciting, interactive sessions. Our Leader’s Guides suggest a rich variety of learning strategies and offer multiple options for session planning.

Our most recent Leader’s Guides are offered on a disk format. Leaders will appreciate being able to use their computer to copy and paste to create a customized lesson plan from the many activity choices suggested. We will be offering this disk format on many of our older studies in the near future. (A print-out of the Leader's Guide PDF is available at a nominal cost, upon request when purchasing a disk format.)

A Slide Presentation with maps, prayers, activities and related illustrations for lesson planning enhancements is included on the disk for our newer or updated studies.

Video segments, of the author or lesson aids, are included where noted.

SUPPLEMENTARY TEXT

Some authors highly recommend one particular commentary to be a companion text to their study. It is not essential that you have this commentary, but you may find it helpful to have a copy available during your preparation or for the group during the course. We carry most recommended texts, but you may want to check with your church library before purchasing.
